We're counting down! Only 3 weeks until Danny Lipford, home improvement expert, TV host and Marianna native, kicks off the renovation of a downtown Marianna lot damaged by Hurricane Michael in 2018. He, his crew and volunteers will transform the space into a community "pocket park," while all of the fun is captured on film for a special 2-part episode of his national TV show, "Today's Homeowner," set to air in early 2021.

Lipford is pleased to announce that the renovated space will be named "Lafayette Landing."

"The planning committee and I considered dozens of possible names for the new park," says Lipford. "Many had references to Hurricane Michael; however, numerous people asked that we avoid a name that serves as a reminder of that bad time. I love "Lafayette Landing" and think it will become a favorite spot in downtown Marianna for many!"

The community of Marianna is building excitement and rallying around this special project! Already, students at Marianna High School are busy building planters and benches for the park. And, students at Chipola College are also hard at work constructing picnic tables that will be added to the park for seating and socializing.

In addition, several businesses have stepped forward to sponsor lunches for volunteers throughout the build week: Penello's Italian Cuisine, Dickey's Barbecue Pit, Winn-Dixie, Enviva Biomass and Beef 'O' Brady's.

We also want to recognize these sponsors for contributing materials for the project: Quikrete, Pavestone and Rex Lumber. Additional sponsors are coming on board for this project daily, and we will continue to recognize and share them with you in future updates.

Anyone wishing to make a financial donation toward the project for park construction and maintenance may send a check payable to the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce. Please note “pocket park” on your check, and mail your donation to:

Volunteers will report to the Madison Street Park pavilion to check-in, complete paperwork, receive a t-shirt and be directed to their assigned workstation. Additional details for volunteers will be sent via email the week of November 23.
Make plans to join us in downtown Marianna for the grand opening of Lafayette Landing! There will be a ribbon cutting, live music, refreshments and food trucks available as we unveil this new community space. Bring a friend and spread the word!
